The Ins and Outs of Ductless AC TechnologyPublished on: September 22, 2016
You may have heard about it on T.V. or read an ad about it. Ductless air conditioning, though it has been around for a long time, has been increasing in popularity among Alabama homeowners. So what’s the big deal with ductless AC? What makes it different from a regular air conditioner? By removing ducts from the equation, ductless systems maximize efficiency by ensuring that every draft of cool air makes it into your living space. Here are the ins and outs of ductless AC technology.
How Does Ductless Tech Work?
Much like a standard air conditioner, a ductless unit is made up of an indoor and outdoor portion. The outdoor air compressor is connected to an indoor air handler (or several handlers) by copper refrigerant lines and electrical wiring. The compressor provides power to the air handler unit.
When the system is engaged, the compressor cools refrigerant within the copper lines and pumps it to the indoor unit. Once inside, fans blow air over the cooled refrigerant and directly into your living space. No ductwork is needed to distribute air throughout the home since the air handler does it directly.
What are the Benefits of Ductless AC?
In a standard air conditioner, a significant amount of energy is lost in between the unit and your living space. That energy, along with your cool air, is lost somewhere along the duct network. Without ducts, a ductless AC system maintains greater energy efficiency, ensuring that you save on energy costs. A lack of ducts also increases your indoor air quality by limiting the spread of irritants and allergens.
Multiple indoor air handler units can also be installed to create different zones within a home. Having multiple zones allows you to personalize the temperature control within your home, further increasing energy efficiency and cutting utility costs.
Thanks to the simple technology contained within ductless air conditioners, homeowners can enjoy greater energy efficiency and comfort. If you have more questions about ductless AC, or would like a ductless unit installed in your home, find a Mingledorffs contractor near you.
